LEGENDA NIÁN (年) SANG MONSTER TAHUN

Pada zaman dahulu kala, hidup seekor monster yang bertanduk tajam dan memiliki surai seperti singa. Monster itu dikenal dengan julukan “Nián” (年) yang berarti ‘tahun’. Nián tinggal di dasar lautan yang dalam dan hanya muncul ke permukaan setiap malam tahun baru.

Pada saat malam tahun baru, Nián akan mendatangi desa-desa dan memporak-porandakannya. Keberadaannya menimbulkan kekacauan dan ketakutan  para warga desa. Kedatangan Nián juga menimbulkan banyak kematian, karena Nián akan memangsa hewan-hewan dan manusia di sekitarnya. Setelah itu ia akan kembali ke dasar lautan dan tidak akan terlihat lagi sampai tahun berikutnya.

The Dong Zhi festival is one of the most important festivals in Chinese culture. To celebrate this festival, families would gather together and make tangyuan.
